Transcription is an analytic act which requires many analytic decisions. How much transcription is necessary, at what level of detail, for each research project? Transcription is particularly important in terms of gene expression because it is the point where most of the regulation of gene expresion occurs. Generally, the amount of a gene product produced depends directly on how much RNA transcript is created. Transcription is the process of copying the genetic information in DNA into RNA. This is done by the enzyme RNA polymerase which binds to a region called a promoter found at the end of a gene.

Medical transcriptionists work in hospitals, clinics, physician practices, and transcription services. Many work in their homes as independent contractors and home-based employees. Medical transcriptionists may be saved a little typing when interpreting such programs, but they still must find a way to most clearly state the doctor?s intent while removing all irrelevant material. Medical transcriptionists who work from home may still be employed through a company or transcription service, or they may be self-employed. Self-employed medical transcriptionists often have the benefit of making their own hours and they are also known to make more money according to the U.S.
