AHDI has a summary of rules in medical transcription that guide companies in facilitating seamless and workable transcription processes. AHDI emphasizes continuing education for its members, holding an annual conference for medical transcriptionists, educators, supervisors/managers, and business owners. There are over 135 component associations of AHDI, each of which holds regular meetings and symposia. AHDI recommends a two-year program that includes an externship, but shorter programs are certainly available. However, the only way to achieve “Certified Medical Transcriptionist” status is by passing the certification exam administered by AHDI.
