Marketing is, after all, always driving business. If you’re connecting with customers but losing your shirt in the process, you’re evangelizing, not marketing. Marketing is not forcing a constituency to accept a pre-designed program. Marketing is hardly any less graspy and barely more conversational, except in a few places.
Marketing is not a conversation. Marketing develops the environment in which communication between and with stakeholders occurs. Marketing is more than just making a sale. You should view your marketing efforts as a continuous process of creating and cultivating relationships. Marketing is the connective tissue of your company. It sits on top of sales, advertising, product development, customer service and more.
