Climate Change

Climate change

Climate change is actually a far greater threat to human well-being than terrorism is. Climate change is not just a moral question: it is the moral question of the 21st century. There is one position even more morally culpable than denial. Climate change is already occurring and is caused by human actions. That fact is agreed upon by 100% of the peer-reviewed scientific studies over the last 10 years (928 articles as of 11/16/06).

Climate change is largely caused by developed countries, but much of the most severe impact will be in tropical and developing countries where there are fewer resources and less margin for error in coping with change. So logic would suggest the ?polluter pays? Climate change is with us. A decade ago, it was conjecture. Climate change is the 21st century’s wake-up call to not just rethink but radically redo our economies. Ninety percent of scientists agree that we are headed toward a climate crisis, and that, indeed, it has already started.

Global warming is bad for your health, according to the U.S. The agency last week warned in a report that more people will die during heat waves, freshwater supplies will shrink, and diseases will spread in coming years, among other impacts of increasing global temperatures. Global warming may also affect wildlife and species that cannot survive in warmer environments may become extinct. Finally, human health is also at stake, as global warming may result in the spreading of certain diseases such as malaria, the flooding of major cities, a greater risk of heat stroke for individuals, and poor air quality. Global warming has left its clearest fingerprint on heat waves. Since the record scorcher of 1998, the average annual temperatures in the United States in six of the past 10 years have been among the hottest 10 percent on record.
